Twilfit House

Twilfit House - 3D RepresentationThe proposed building is essentially a seven storey commercial office building over basement carpark accessed from a car hoist on Wolfe Tone Street with retail use at ground floor. The building is set back from the park on the Jervis Street side and the offices are accessed from the corner of Jervis Street facing Wolfe Tone Park. The proposed building is modelled to respond to the varying site conditions to allow maximum light penetration into the Park from the South and West sides. At the corner of Jervis Street and Abbey Street we have created a tower to mark the corner to echo the tower on the Jervis Centre. This will create a focal point between the two buildings when viewed from the river and also along Abbey Street. The building is to be elegant, contemporary and will create a strong profile on the skyline

The proposed building will add significantly to the urban atmosphere of the immediate area. By opening up the North façade to the park in a light transparent manner the dark end of the park will be enlivened. The Park was re-designed following a design competition in 1998. The old layout was ‘defensive’ and followed the typical layout of Irish urban spaces in that it was railed in and had restricted opening hours and provided a refuge from the enclosing city fabric. The re-designed Park removed the barrier between the Park and the surrounding streets and opened up the space as an ‘urban piazza’ with an active use. On winter evenings the building will be a ‘light-box’ on the park in contrast to the existing building which turns its back on the Park and creates a dark corner at the Southern end. It shall significantly contribute to the social success of the park as a safe and user friendly open space.
