2 Haddington RdThe design of the building is contemporary but creates strong links in form and colour to the existing historic buildings. The external elevations are a combination of natural stone and high performance double glazed curtain walling. The office building is accessed off a three storey entrance atrium. The impressive entrance and reception area is fitted out to the highest standards with honed black limestone flooring in the atrium and up the stairs. This air pre-cools the slabs prior to occupation in the morning, with the "coolth" being released during the day time to ensure comfort within the office space. The windows would be interlinked to the Offices' Building Management System (BMS) to automatically control the windows depending on the current internal and external air temperatures.

The building has been carefully designed to meet the criteria of the new Energy Rating for Buildings so that the highest possible rating can be achieved with a sustainable and environmental design. Trench heating is employed along the perimeter concealed within the raised access floor. In general, the lighting installation will comprise high frequency, category 2, low brightness, fluorescent luminaires which will be selected to provide illumination levels as recommended in the latest standards.
