The brief was to create social housing within a limited backlands site, situated behind an existing flat complex and surrounded on the remaining three sides by service lanes. The project comprises of 28 apartments designed to connect the new and existing buildings, enclosing a gated communal courtyard. The courtyard is landscaped to provide small paved gardens for both the new and existing ground floor units as well as a common recreational space, creating a sense of community, ownership and social interaction.

The deliberate graduation of a series of spaces from the semi-public to private accommodates a varied social interaction amongst the occupants. The building is broken down in scale into five blocks. Four of these blocks consist of six apartments, two per floor, served by a common stairs. The fifth block consists of four units set around a small courtyard.
