College of Technology: Bolton Street1987 - 1988 / €7.5mThis 60% extension is attached to the existing College of Technology and contains approximately 8000m2 of additional teaching and resource space, with completely new library, restaurant and student facilities. A new pedestrian entrance, linking both buildings, runs along Kings Inns Street and gives access to an open, landscaped, multi-level courtyard which acts as a pivot around which the old building and the new are knitted together. The social heart of the College, a dramatic three-storey, open space, links the old and new buildings and is overlooked by wide mezzanine / balconies at each level. The response of staff and students has been highly positive. This is reflected in an increasing confidence and a greatly increased public dimension to College activities at all levels. In 1993 President Mary Robinson presented us with the RIAI Triennial Gold Medal for Excellence for this project |
